Enhanced Functionality and Biomedical Additives
Explore the proprietary additives and compounding methods used to enhance polymer capabilities.
Imaging Visibility
Devices are clearly visible during and after deployment using methods like X-ray/Fluoroscopy, MRI, and Ultrasound. Advanced fillers (e.g., Barium Sulfate, Bismuth, Tungsten) are utilized for Fluoroscopy visibility, a feature perfected by our LoPro® Radiopaque Compounds.
Low-Friction & Lubricity
Friction can be reduced using organic and inorganic additives, as well as with our proprietary PFAs-free ProPell™ low friction custom compounds.
Color and Aesthetics
Precise device identification, as well as enhanced aesthetics are achieved with pre-color-compounded solutions and color concentrates (21 CFR medical and food-contact grades), including our Medibatch™ concentrates.
Material Stabilization
Polymer lifespan and integrity against environmental and manufacturing stressors are maximized using Antioxidants, UV Stabilizers, and Anti-hydrolysis additives.
Anti-microbial Solutions
Infection risk is managed by integrating silver and non-silver-based additives. Our Combat™ antimicrobial technology actively works to help fight healthcare-associated infections.
Material Reinforcement
Strength and stiffness are increased using fillers like Glass Fiber, Carbon Fiber, and our Nanomed® reinforcement technologies which enhance structural durability and physical properties.
Anti-Static & Other Properties
Conductive additives are incorporated for anti-static properties, while glass spheres enable precise density control. Additional functional additives are available to tailor material performance.

Discover Our CapabilitiesSterilization: Material Choice is Critical
Sterilization is a critical tool to battle healthcare-associated infections as it destroys microorganisms that cause disease transmission. While many methods exist, the industry primarily relies on Ethylene Oxide (EtO), gamma irradiation, and autoclave (steam) sterilization, as each process utilizes distinct levels of heat, moisture, or energy. Polymer selection is critical; using the wrong sterilization method can degrade functionality or performance in device components. Discuss your sterilization needs with a Foster technical expert to discover which sterilization technique best suits your application.
